The Pampered Pup
Congratulations on the Puppy!
With all the focus on house training, socialization, and teaching basic obedience and manners, it is easy to put your pup’s grooming needs on hold for the first few weeks… this is not a good idea!
Whether your pup is a breed that will need professional grooming every 6-8 weeks, or if it has a short coat and will only need an occasional bath and nail trim, your pup will benefit from starting the grooming experience as soon as possible.
We recommend as soon as they have completed their vaccinations, as the younger they are the quicker they will get used to it which will be beneficial to their long term grooming experience and mental health.
The first time a puppy enters a grooming salon it is a very important moment. They don’t understand why they are there and what is going to happen.
The initial experience they have can et the stage for how they respond to being groomed for the rest of their life. Therefore, it’s essential to make the experience as pleasant as possible.
We go to great lengths to ensure that your pup’s first visit at our spa is positive and relaxing. Its not about the grooming, it’s about the experience! Your pup needs to learn that the groomer’s is not like a scary trip to the dentist!
The Program
Our Puppy Bath Package & Puppy Groom Package introduces your puppy to the grooming process using gentle, low stress handling over multiple sessions. Your puppy will experience a nail trim, ear cleaning, relaxing baths, blow drying, brushing, and trimming all introduced in a calm and positive manner.
This program is for the client who wants to start their puppy off right on their path to a lifetime of enjoyable spa days.
We offer these packages for puppies under 5 months of age; however, start as soon as possible! Once puppies have their second set of shots, they are clear to come in.
What you get: This package is an introduction to grooming that allows your puppy to get used to the sounds and experience of being groomed, without overwhelming the puppy with a full groom on the first visit.
The package must be completed within 6 week window. Consistent visits is key to helping your puppy develop a pattern of the grooming process and become more comfortable.

Start at Home!
You can help too by getting the puppy used to some of the noises and activities at home. Try brushing with a gentle brush and comb, playing with and massaging the feet and face, and using a hand-held blow dryer (no warmer than medium heat! and keep the dryer moving, do not point at one spot!) to blow the puppy dry after a bath, or just gently tap their nails. Don’t forget their back paws! Doing this at least once a day will help your new puppy get used to being handled. Of course, have lots of yummy small treats handy too.
If you are going to maintain the dog at home at all, it is wise to get them accustomed to standing on a raised surface, quietly and calmly. This lessens any potential fear when they the groomer, since the off-the-floor experience is familiar. Another good tip is to practice lifting up your puppy from the floor. Have a special word like “up” or “Here we go” when you’re picking up your puppy. This will help them anticipate what is about to happen. It can be scary for a small young puppy to all of a sudden have two hands around them and pick them up.
Here is some things you can try at home:
Positive touching of the feet to gain confidence when it’s time for nails to be trimmed or their pads to be cleaned
Introduce them to air (hair dryer)
Introduction to vibrations; use electric tooth brush to replicate a hair clipper -run it along their body so they are accustomed to it
Introduce cold shiny metal close to their face (teaspoon)to emulate the presence of scissors
